The 2009 World of Difference award winner is GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) (www.GSK.com). It joins a distinguished group of prior recipients including, Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corporation, Pottery Barn International, Ricoh Americas Corporation, James Connelly of TSS Facilities Management, and Diane Carr. This prestigious award is presented annually by the board of trustees of Creative Heartwork at A Dinner of Hope to recognize the time, talents and resources dedicated to improving the lives of children who experience(d) trauma, loss, illness and disabilities. In 2009, GSK provided Creative Heartwork with funding to continue to provide its annual summer day camp for Newark area children who are infected or affected by HIV. These children engaged in various therapeutic arts workshops designed to help them to heal, express their emotions, channel their feelings and increase their self esteem. The third annual summer camp of 2009 was increased to two weeks and had a special African theme thanks to the special funding awarded. As one part of the camp, a mural exchange took place and was filmed not only at the Creative Heartwork studio but with children in Nairobi, Kenya. The exchange was made possible by a first time alliance established with Delbarton High School students who took the mural to Nairobi on their community service trip through the school sponsored BEADS project (Benedictines of East Africa and Delbarton Students, beads-m.delbarton-school.groupfusion.net). Thus, this year's "Sunset on the Serengeti" theme for this year's Dinner of Hope also celebrates the first global exchange project made possible through new friendships established with neighbors close by and across the seas.
